Christmas is coming soon and the preparations for this holiday have already begun as most cities already installed their season lighting but they are waiting for December to come in order to actually turn them on. In most cities turning on the season lights is a task for the mayor and it’s usually followed by a celebration. It’s no secret that the seasonal outside lighting lift up the moral of the people and make them more kind to each other especially since during this time of the year natural light is at its shortest. However, the city halls will see a sharp increase in the electricity bill for the months of December and January, not to mention the costs of buying, installing and then uninstalling the lights, which will run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at least. But what would a Christmas celebration be without the lights? Many people argue that this is the best aspect of the holiday, even better than the carols or even the gifts.

Amazon rain forest trip

Recently I got back from my Amazon rain forest trip. I’ve been planning it for 1 year before going there and I must say that its one of the best trips I’ve ever made in my life. Although it was quite expensive, it has definitely been life changing for me. The whole tripe was taking a boat with 2 friends of mine and a local guide and traveling upstream the mighty Amazon river. For the entire trip we were surrounded by the rain forest which watched over us from the banks of the river. We saw all kinds of wild life such as piranhas, river dolphins, discus fish, fox bats, turtles and even a panther. Other that that, the highlight of the trip was meeting with a local tribe which saw as from the river bank. Pedro, our guide immediately started communicating with them and they invited us to spend a few days in their village not far from the river side. It’s there that the local shaman gave us a special drink during the night and he performed a few ceremonies which changed our lives forever. We were so impressed by our experiences that we vowed to return to that village as soon as possible.

Liz Taylor jewelries to be auctioned

In a recent press release the Christie’s auction house confirmed that they will put out for auction the jewelry collection of the late Elizabeth Taylor. For the first time in the auction houses history the bidding will take place online because so many people were interesting in taking part that it would have been impossible to fit them all under the same roof. The auction will include a lot of different jewelry items the famous actress use to wear such as earrings, diamond rings and necklaces. The lowest prices will start at about $70 dollars while the highest valued items will have a starting price of $6500. Elizabeth Taylor passed away in March 2011 at the age of 79 following many years of health related issues. She will be remembered for the many roles she played din epic movies such as Cleopatra. Some even say that she is the greatest movie star of all time.

Modern day cruise ships

The modern day cruise ships are something people only dared to dream of. They are like the floating island fom Julles Verene book. Actual cities on water which travel year long across the seas and oceans of the world. They have come a long way from the famous Titanic which although it was very luxurious, it was lacking in even the basic safety measures as it did not even have enough life boats for all its passengers. Now these kind of ships are fitted with all the latest life saving equipment from life vests, life rafts, sprinklers, fire alarms, portable defibrillator, first aid crew and doctors etc. Other than that the luxury within the ship its self is much more sumptuous that it was 100 years ago. A typical room is equally as good, if not better than in any land hotel. However the main attraction on cruise ships are the entertainment facilities which offer all kind of interesting activities for the on board passengers. They have ball rooms with dance floor music, water parks with pools and tubes, casinos with roulette and bars with contemporary bar stools. There is everything a man could ever need in order to never get bored. There are people who spend so much as an entire year on the board of a cruise ship. They travel the world and live a sumptuous life in the same time. The only thing limiting this explosive experience is the budget which must be really a lot for maintaing such a lifestyle for the course of an year or even more. Most of the passengers however just take short vacation trips which last between one and 4 weeks and which don’t cost more than a few thousand dollars per person.
